Vaid takes stock of police assistance in snow bound areas

JAMMU, Jan 7: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid today discussed preparedness to meet any eventuality in view of the inclement weather in Kashmir valley. He asked the field officers to gear up their men and machinery for the assistance of  civil population.
He was interacting with the Range DIGs, District Superintendents of Police and Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions. He stressed upon the officers to monitor the weather situations and remain available in their respective areas. He said that men and officers deployed in the field should be briefed adequately for the preparedness and assistance in case of any emergency. In the remote areas people should be briefed to take precautions in order to avert any loss of life due to avalanches.
DGP asked the officers to coordinate with civil administration and provide all possible assistance to the public. He said that police in remote areas have to monitor the situations and ensure availability of essential commodities in coordination with other stakeholders.
Road connectivity and communication system should be restored on priority and every possible assistance provided to ferry the patients to nearby hospitals. Joint control rooms with the civil administration should coordinate the efforts and take all required measures to meet any emergency situation, Vaid added.
DGP asked the senior officers to supervise the assistance work in the field personally and ensure that all available sources are utilized to ease the people’s problems in this hour of need. He said that police has always remained on forefront in public service and to provide helping hand in emergent situations is a test for the force.
During the interaction, officers apprised the DGP that all subordinate units have been mobilized to remain vigilant and meet any exigency caused by the inclement weather. They assured that the people’s problems are addressed, besides the men and material have already been pressed into service in snow bound areas.
