Unmasking Kashmir

Sir,
All kudos to Daily Excelsior for publishing the excerpts of Sonali Kumar’s book “Unmasking Kashmir: A Bureaucrat Reveals”. An honest account of the first non-state subject lady IAS officer’s experiences during her long stint in the state of J&K has been graphically revealed. There would be scores of such officers who have had similar experiences but lacked spine to reveal all that. As such Sonali Kumar deserves a big “thanks”.
These excerpts make two things crystal clear. One, all that sheen attached to a non-state subject IAS officer serving in J&K state is only superficial. He or she too has to face the same discrimination and  the systemic vices such as nepotism and/or corruption as many others in different walks of life face in our state. Second, our politicians at the helm have been and continue to pay only a lip service to the oft repeated slogans of national integration and are doing precious little to achieve the same in the true sense of the word. Hope this book makes some difference to the minds of those who curse any change and prefer the status quo to remain.
Yours etc…
