RAJOURI, Sept 11: Addressing Teachers and officers of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to Chief Minister said that “Universities are the Oasis of Knowledge”, and added BGSBU is the dream University of the Chief Minister, who is also the Chancellor of the University and took the bold decision to make the University operational in 2004.
He said it is the vision of the Chancellor that the University is achieving new heights in academics and research.
Pertinently, Prof Amitabh Mattoo has been involved with the setting up of BGSB University since inception.
Prof Mattoo, who is also Chairman of Search Committee for appointment of Vice Chancellor of BGSBU placed on record the contribution of Prof Irshad Ahmed Hamal during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the University and assured the faculty that the Search Committee for the new Vice Chancellor is deeply engaged with the task and the new Vice Chancellor will be  a person of highest academic standing.
Prof. Mattoo said that no one will be allowed to create instability on the Campus in future and people responsible for financial scams will be brought to the book at the earliest.
Prof Mattoo urged the faculty members to be motivated and optimistic so that Excellence becomes the benchmark of success which should be passed on to the students, who are the future of the nation. He said that India has a youth population of 600 million people under the age of 20 years and by addressing the challenges in higher education viz Expansion, Excellence, Equity and Pedagogy, this human resource is poised to make India one of the largest and strongest economy in the world in the next two decades.
Responding to questions from some teachers, Prof Mattoo said that E-Governance should be adopted by the University to bring it at par with international standards. He said that BGSBU is poised to be the Centre of Excellence in the sub-continent and time is not far when students from the entire sub-continent will seek admission in the University. He advised the teachers to inculcate innovative measures and suggested that a Literary Club be established in the Department of English.
Prof Mattoo said that the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is deeply attached and devoted to BGSB University and there will  be no constraint in funding for academic growth and development of the University.
Earlier, Prof I A Hamal, Vice Chancellor also spoke on the occasion.
