Union Joint Secy reviews status of GST implementation in Anantnag, Ramban, Reasi

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Union Joint Secretary Industries and Commerce Sudhanshu Pandey today reviewed status of implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Anantnag, Ramban and Reasi districts.
In Anantnag, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah informed Union Joint Secretary about the status of implementation of the path-breaking taxation regime and said that 3546 provisional IDs have been distributed and from July 11 to July 31, 105 GST registrations have been made.
With respect to the pending stocks, the traders were informed that in case of those stocks having available vouchers/ bills, the traders can opt for input tax credit (ITC) through Train A or B forms and for those who do not have bill proof will get an ITC of 40% on the stocks previously taxed below 18% and 60% on the items previously taxed above 18%.
The Union Joint Secretary patiently listened to the issues raised by various traders and assured them that he will be raising them in the next GST Council meeting. He directed the Commercial Tax officers to adopt multi-pronged strategy for smooth implementation of the tax regime including creation of knowledge resource through intensive training programmes, awareness camps on legal issues, complex taxation rate issues and service sector specific issues.
In Ramban, Sudhanshu Pandey directed the Commercial Tax Department and district administration to ensure different training sessions for different categories of tax payers for the effective implementation of GST system besides preparing educated youth at local level to overcome the teething problems.
He directed all the departments to ensure that there was no shortage of products and consumer items in order to keep a check on prices, adding that special emphasis should be laid to check inflation.
He stressed that benefits of GST should be passed on to consumers which would in turn also keep inflation under control. He said that the billing machines and computers used by dealers, retailers for computerized billing should be foolproof. He exhorted upon the contractors, shopkeepers and traders to go for registration under GST so that their business shall not affect.
At Katra in Reasi district, Sudhanshu Pandey along with Anoo Malhotra, Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes Admn and Ravinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner took stock of the difficulties being faced by the traders under the new tax regime.
Pandey assured the traders for speedy disposal of problems being faced by them under new tax regime. He also reviewed the implementation of GST in Reasi and was briefed by Anoo Malhotra in this regard.
