JAMMU, Feb 21: A large number of  unemployed diploma engineers held strong protest demonstration against the J&K  Service Selection  Recruitment Board (SSRB)  authorities for ignoring them in the recently released selection list of Junior Engineers (Civil).
A large number of diploma holder unemployed civil engineers assembled at Panama Chowk here today and started protest march towards the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. They were shouting slogans against the SSRB chairperson, members and the State Administration for biased approach towards Diploma holders.
They strongly resented the criteria of the Board authorities and alleged that earlier there was  criteria of 1:3 for the diploma and degree holders but this time out of 633 candidates selected as JEs only 35 diploma holders were taken despite the fact that a large number of  diploma holders had qualified the written test. After holding protest dharna they met Divisional Commissioner, Shantmanu in the form of a delegation and highlighted the matter. They alleged favouritism and nepotism and maintained that list was most unfair and it should be cancelled. They pointed out that previous Government opened 18 new Polytechnics and many students obtained degrees and many more are in the process. Moreover, Diploma holders have only this scope to apply for the post of JE while Degree holder can compete for any post even for the KAS/KPS or IAS. The SSRB members have played cruel joke with them, they maintained.
They also demanded high level inquiry and alleged that no proper criteria was adopted. They pointed out that forms for the posts of JE civil were accepted in February 2012, December 2013 and then May 2013 for the posts of 115, 100 and then 418. But for all these posts a written was conducted on August 2014. It is interesting to note that some candidates who passed out in 2014 also figured in the selection list. Eight such candidates have been surfaced in the list.  They demanded high level inquiry and cancellation of  the list as it was most unfair. It has brought the acts of chairperson and members under scanner, they alleged.
They appeal to the Governor N N Vohra to personally intervene otherwise they will be compelled to sit on indefinite dharna and also launch hunger strike outside Raj Bhawan from Monday. The Divisional Commissioner assured these candidates to take up the issue with the Chief Secretary and Principal secretary to Governor.
