This has reference to the news item ‘Governor again asks CM for holding ULB, Panchayat polls’ DE April 18, 2018.
The Government must now focus on holding elections for Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats as there is no scope for further delay.
These grassroot democratic institutions have suffered terribly as no funds could be made available to them by the Central Government.
The Central Government has already given green signal for the same, and State Government should carry on the process to its logical end.
Many developmental works could not be carried out in villages in absence of PRIs. For devolution of powers, it is necessary that 73rd Constituional Amendment implemented in the State to ensure financial assistance from the Centre. Without 73rd Amendment, it will be a futile exercise to conduct these elections.
In the past, many Panches and Sarpanches expressed their dismay over non-inclusion of 73rd Amendment.
Hope, the Government would consider bringing in this amendment, before holding these elections.
