Ujh Multipurpose Project

Much hyped but equally required by the State, Ujh Multipurpose Project in Kathua district is on its way to get into the motion of activity as the stage is set even for laying of its foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his forthcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir. This follows the much required development in its getting much awaited approval from the Union Cabinet expectedly very shortly as necessary decks have been cleared for it. Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources has finally cleared the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the State Government under the Governor’s rule. This is a prestigious project promising not only generating of 186 MW power but also irrigating 31380 hectares of parched land.
It was really disheartening to note that this ambitious project was facing hiatuses and delays for as long as 17 years because of the unresponsive approach by the successive State Governments, perhaps, not underlining the immense importance to the State and a resultant boost in the economy from this project on its commissioning. This project has the distinction of being the National Project which means that the Central Government will ensure not only its work getting started at the earliest but its completion as early as possible. Detailed revised project report was sought from the State Government which on receipt was examined professionally by the Advisory Committee. Let us hope the project getting complete within the timeframe to enable the State reap its benefits.
