UGC HRDC General Orientation Course begins in Home Sc Deptt

JAMMU, Dec 4: Inaugural function of the four week UGC HRDC General Orientation Course for College and University teachers was held today in the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu.
The chief guest of the function was Prof  Rahul Gupta, Dean Mathematical Sciences, JU. He stressed on the need of updating knowledge, enrichment and experience sharing through organized systematic work.
Prof  J P S Joorel, Director, HRDC, JU, deliberated on the specification regarding the orientation course and assured all help to the participants. He also apprised the participants about the need of attending all the sessions, as this is a prerequisite of the course.
Prof  Rajni Dhingra, senior faculty member of Dept  of Home Science and former Dean Faculty of Science, motivated the participants especially the outstation participants to participate in such courses to benefit from the varied experiences.
Prof Neeru Sharma, HOD of Dept  of Home Science,  while speaking on the occasion emphasized on the need of active participation of all attending teachers.
Earlier in her welcome address, Dr  Samridhi Arora (Coordinator of the course) gave the objectives and details of the programme to the participants. She apprised them with the various facets and issues to be covered as part of the course like Research and Teaching ethics, Plagiarism, Quality assurance, value education, holistic health, women empowerment and development, administration and financial/service/leave rules and regulations, Examination Reforms (CBCS), environment, research methodology, communication skills and IT and professional development of teachers in Higher Education.
Dr Sarika Manhas (Co- coordinator of the Course) while interacting with the participants underlined the importance of regular updating of academic knowledge by teachers. Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director, UGC HRDC, JU presented a formal vote of thanks.
The program was conducted by Sonali Sharma, Research Scholar of the Department of Home Science.
