NEW DELHI, Jan 31: Udhampur will have a daily train service to Pathankot, which will start shortly after finalizing the precise date from when Train No. 74906 / 74907, presently operating between Udhampur and Jammu Tawi, will follow an extended route up to Pathankot.
Disclosing this here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this will fulfill a popular demand of the local population for which, he had made a personal request to the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. He said, he had received an official written communique from the Railway Minister confirming that the request had been conceded and orders had been issued for running a daily train service between Udhampur and Pathankot.
Over the last five years, Dr Jitendra Singh said, there has been a constant endeavour to improve connectivity by road and other means, in the hilly terrains of this region and the Udhampur-Pathankot Rail service will not only add to ease of travel for local commuters, but also contribute to social and economic development of the area. He said, this will also offer relief and facility, particularly to youth and others, who undertake daily journey from Udhampur to destinations beyond Jammu, including Kathua, etc. He thanked the Railway Ministry for having conceded this demand in spite of the financial constraints involved.
With the new Radio Station having become operational from 21st of January and the historic Devika Rejuvenation Project being launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3rd of February, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the new train service is yet another New Year achievement for the people of Udhampur.
Meanwhile, an All-India Gurjar delegation represented by “Akhand Bharat Gurjar Mahasabha” today called on Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and held a meeting to discuss the issues of concern to the community. They also presented a memorandum listing various demands of the Gurjar community living in different States, including Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
