Two snow leopards rescued

KARGIL, Feb 19: Wildlife Department rescued two snow leopards from Darchiks.
According to Wildlife Ranger Bashir Ahmad, Wildlife Department on the inputs from Police Post Batalik visited Darchiks Village and rescued two leopards from abandoned cow shed.
Bashir Ahmad said that the leopards–male and female were rescued in close coordination of a team from Police Post Batalik.
Shahzad Ahmad, Wildlife Warden Kargil while talking to media persons said that finding of young snow leopard in Kargil is a positive sign for leopard population in Kargil, adding that the department will work day and night to save these endangered species.
He said that his staff members are doing their best to work with local villagers to address incidences of human-wildlife conflict in Kargil. However, the entire district is manned a team of three permanent staff members and about 20 casual labourers, he added.
“This team is responsible for conserving endangered species spread across the district. Due to shortage of staff, we have not been able to reach all the villages that have reported such incidents of conflict,” he added.
Bashir Ahmad told that they will release these animals back in Batalik Sector after proper medical checkup.
