JAMMU, Mar 31: Two persons including a teenager were killed when their two-wheeler was hit by a Tavera car in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
The mishap occurred today at about 11 AM at Tanda on Akhnoor- Poonch road, where a Tavera vehicle (registration number JK02AG-4615) being driven in a negligent manner by Amarjeet son of Chuni Lal, resident of Nowshera, towards Rajouri to Jammu, hit a scooty bearing registration JK02BP-1204 coming from opposite side.
In the mishap, Ghanshyam (45) son of Tirth Ram and Arun Kumar (14) son of Rajesh Kumar, both residents of Chowki Choura, received serious injuries. The locals called off the police by dialing emergency number 100 but the flying squad reached too late and by that time both the injured persons had died.
Thereafter, showing their insensitiveness, police officials tried to shift the bodies to hospital by keeping them in a Tata Mobile, but the people gathered on the accident site opposed this disrespect to the human bodies and staged a protest against the police.
They raised slogans against the police and demanded to arrange an ambulance to shift the bodies to the hospital. Thereafter, an ambulance was arranged and the bodies were shifted to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor, where after completing all medico-legal formalities, they were handed over to their legal heirs for last rites.
Meanwhile, Akhnoor police has registered a case in this connection and arrested the accused Tavera driver. Both the vehicles involved in the mishap were also seized.
