Two injured in assault

JAMMU, Mar 26: Two persons were injured, one of them seriously, in an assault case in Gharota area of city outskirts, today.
According to a police spokesman, an Ex-Sarpanch namely, Narinder Singh son of late Vakil Singh, resident of Ward No 3, Gharota, was going on its bike this evening, when a man identified as Kranti Sharma son of Ashok Kumar, resident of Gharota, intercepted him and attacked with a sharp edged weapon (parthi), over some old rivalry.
The spokesman said that a passerby namely Goutam (45) son of Om Dutt, resident of Ward No 5, Gharota, came to rescue of Narinder Singh but he was also attacked by the accused.
“Narinder Singh received serious injuries in the attack while Goutam also sustained some injuries”, he said, adding both the injured were immediately rushed to Government Primary Health Centre, Bhalwal, from where they were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
The spokesman said that family members of Narinder later took him to a private hospital in Amritsar for specialized treatment. “A case under section 307 RPC has been registered against the accused in this connection while raids are being conducted to apprehend him, as he is on large”, he added.
