Two GMC doctors attend IMSCON at Kolkata

JAMMU, Feb 22: Dr (Prof.) Sudha Sharma, a noted Gynecologist & Prof. and Head Medicine Dr. Anil Mahajan from GMC Jammu were invited as National Faculty at IMSCON-2019 at Kolkata. This National Conference of Indian Menopause Society (IMS) was attended by international level and national faculty besides many Indian delegates.
Prof. Susan Davis (President International Menopause Society), Dr Steven R. Gold Stein (President Elect IMS) and Prof. Nicholas Panay (British Menopause Society), eminent experts in the field of menopause highlighted role of Menopause Hormone Therapy, Androgen Therapy and Alternative Therapies for Menopausal women
Dr Sudha highlighted the cancer risk, awareness & importance of screening breast in cases of Mastalgia & role of Reassurance & Drug therapy in such cases. Dr Sudha was one of the contributor along with Dr Rashmi Shah (Mumbai) in 1000 MCQ book on Menopause released on Inauguration and also contributed with Dr Anil Mahajan and Dr Varun in a book regarding a Menopausal Case Prescription writing.
Dr. Anil Mahajan, in his presentation, Menopause and Osteoarthritis, highlighted that osteoarthritis (OA) affects women almost with onset of Menopause. Hormone deficiency also affects cartilage, ligaments, subchondralbone and muscles and leads to joint failure. With advancing age, females are affected more as more joints are involved other than knee and arthritis is more severe. Lifestyle modification, exercise, control of obesity etc, is also important in management besides drugs like analgesics, chondratinsulfate, glucosamine and diacerin and finally some of the patients may have to go for joint replacement.
“OA needs to be treated at appropriate time otherwise shall compromise quality of life and lead to huge socio-economic burden,” he said.
