Two-day Jammu Lok Mela commences

UDHAMPUR, Mar 26: Two days long Jammu Lok Mela organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages commenced today at Ramnagar.
The mela was inaugurated by Dhirendra Sharma, SDM, Ramnagar, who was chief guest on the occasion in presence of Kalo Devi and Laafo Ram, senior folk artists of the region. Rakesh Kumar, Tehsil Information Officer, Ramnagar and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present.
While speaking, Dhirendra Sharma said that through such melas the original folk of the region will not only get recognition but also encourage the young generation to know about their old rich traditions, culture and rituals’.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Language said that 87 folk parties are taking part in this mela from Baspur Bangla, RS Pura, Lakhri, Billawar, Jhiri, Devsthan, Jammu and Ramnagar and Udhampur.
He further said that the main aim to organise such folk festivals in remote and rural areas was to provide platform to the dying folk forms like masade, bhagtian, fummanian and others.
The folk parties which performed in today’s Programme included Ramalo Ram and Party, Kalo Devi and Party, Subhash Brahmanu and Party, Sheru Ram and party, Saras Bharti and Party, Laafo Ram and party, Angrejo Ram and party, Babu Ram and party, Karnail Singh and Party, Hans Raj and Party, Rasal Chand and Party, Mohan Mistry and party and Basant Ram and party.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Rattan Basotra, Assistant Editor and vote of thanks was presented by Dr Ashok Gupta, Editor Dogri.
Among others present were Kasturi Lal Sarpanch Bari, Raj Kumar, Sarpanch, Suresh Kumar, Panch Dalsar, Thakur Das Sumthyal, Dogri writer, Om Jinderyari, Dogri writer and large number of locals of the area.
