Twin Smart Cities

People of the State have hailed the efforts of the State Government in making the Union Minister of Urban Development agree to the declaration of the twin capital cities of the State as Smart Cities. Previously, the proposal was of only one Smart City for the State but the Deputy Chief Minister expeditiously convinced the Centre that the State should have two Smart Cities. Now, these two cities figure in the list of 100 Smart Cities which the Modi Government had promised to create.
There are many benefits of a Smart City. They will have automatic traffic signal, better public transport facility, quick accident relief, smart traffic system, data centre, face identification system to catch criminals, control room for crime, health, services and traffic for better coordination to provide quick help to the people besides series of other facilities for which several millions would be spent by the Centre Government. The twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu, both are old cities without any significant trace of modernity. They have their respective Master Plans but owing to paucity of funds these plans remain enchained in files. With the announcement made by the Union Minister for Urban Development, there will be activity in all aspects to make the two cities wear modern look and have more civic facilities. The fact is that Modi Government has been very frugal towards the State. The Centre has committed two AIIMS, two Cancer Institutes and three Medical Colleges recently, apart from number of National Highways and bridges etc. The PM has said more than once that he is anxious to see J&K becoming a prosperous State and he would extend all possible help to achieve that goal.
