DODA, Feb 8: Gandoh police today arrested the Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department after he was found involved in embezzlement of ration worth lakhs meant for the public in Bhalessa, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandoh Police Station.
“TSO Gandoh, Suresh Kumar was today arrested in a case of embezzlement registered at Police Station Gandoh after his involvement was established after a prolonged investigation by SHO”, said SDPO Gandoh, Sunny Gupta.
“Some more arrests are expected within a couple of days, but we cannot divulge the details of the others involved in the scam as it can hamper the investigation which has reached a crucial juncture”, he added.
Investigation Officer, SHO Gandoh, Tahir Khan said, “We summoned the accused TSO several times but he did not cooperate and was absconding since last couple of months”, adding that in April, 2016, Gandoh Police seized 501 quintals of wheat and rice in 1002 bags of FCS&CA Department ration from two private shops at Bhatyas in Chilly Pingal Tehsil of Doda district.
Storekeeper Abdul Rashed was arrested but was later released on bail, he said, adding that the arrest was made in the course of a criminal investigation that has been going on since April last year, SHO said.
People of Bhalessa said that the police action over TSO will go a long way in curbing the menace of black marketing of rations and kerosene meant for the poor who are totally dependent on FCS&CA Department’s ration supply.
