TS Wazir inaugurates 16th State Korfball C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 23: TS Wazir, President J&K Korfball Association inaugurated the 16th Bhai Gurbax Singh Memorial State Korfball Championship 2018-19 at Playing Field No-1, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
14 teams from various districts are participating in the tournament.
The opening match was played between Kathua and Udhampur, wherein former defeated latter by 5-2.
In other matches, Samba drubbed Rajouri by 6-3, Shopian trounced Bandipora 1-0, Pulwama outplayed Kulgam 7-0, Kathua prevailed over Anantnag 3-1, Kulgam got the better of Baramulla 5-3, Jammu East beat Kathua 7-5, Jammu South outclassed Shopian 13-3, Udhampur drubbed Anantnag 2-0, Pulwama trounced Baramulla 6-2 and Jammu East beat Bandipora 6-0.
Earlier, office bearers and District Secretaries of J&K Korfball Association welcomed the chief guest and introduced him with the participating players.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Tarlok Singh Advisor of the Association, Manjeet Singh General Secretary, Ram Kumar Sharma Treasurer, VP Sharma Secretary, Madan Lal Joint Secretary, Gulzar Ahmed, District Secretary Baramulla, Kranti Khajuria, District Secretary Kathua and Shokat Rasool Secretary Pulwama.
Quarterfinals line up was drawn in the Championship on day one. The teams which qualified for the last eight stage included Districts Kathua, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Udhampur, Samba, Jammu East and Jammu South.
