Trump new Sheriff in town: Ahluwalia

WASHINGTON, Dec 5:  Donald Trump is the “new Sheriff in town” who is redefining the US-Indo Pacific strategy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi could be a “perfect partner” for him in effectively implementing this plan, an Indian-American member of US President-elect’s Asian Advisory Committee has said.
“He (Trump) is standing strong on his campaign promise on sending a clear signal to our allies, competitors and enemies,” Puneet Ahluwalia told PTI.
“President-elect Trump is the new Sheriff in town, he is redefining the US-Indo Pacific strategy,” he said.
Ahluwalia said Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can “enhance and further strengthen” the bilateral partnership on multiple fronts.
“Both leaders have a lot in common in determining their internal and external policy for their countries. A strong reliable partnership in east and west stabilises from Africa to Asia,” Ahluwalia said in response to a question.
“Prime Minster Modi is a perfect partner for Trump administration in effectively implementing this strategy,” Ahluwalia told PTI as Trump sought to redefine US-Indo-Pacific Strategy first by talking to the Taiwanese president and then slamming China in a tweet for currency manipulation and military expansion in the region.
Modi was one of the first few leaders to have spoken with Trump after his historic win in elections.
A few weeks before his election on November 8, Trump had publicly praised Modi for his leadership by putting India on the path of fast economic development, cutting red tapism and fight against corruption.
Trump had said in him India would have a best friend in the White House. (AGENCIES)
