Tributes paid to martyrs of 1966 students agitation

NPP and NPSU activists paying tributes to student martyrs of 1966 agitation at Jammu on Thursday. -Excelsior/Rakesh

JAMMU, Oct 17: National Panthers Party (NPP) and its students wing National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) today paid tributes to martyred students of 1966 agitation namely Gursharan Singh, Brij Mohan, Gulshan Handa and Subash Chander at Shaheedi Sathal, outside GGM Science College, here today.
On the occasion, Prof Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of NPP, Harshdev Singh, MLA and Chairman NPP, Yashpaul Kundal, MLA, general secretary NPP, Bansi Lal Sharma, advisor, Partap Singh Jamwal, president, NPSU, HC Jalmeria, advocate and Anita Thakur, general secretaries flanked by other dignitaries paid tributes to martyred students by garlanding their statues.
Prof Bhim Singh while paying tributes to the student martyrs said that 47 years ago students leaders were killed who were demanding a University, in 1975. Four students were martyred during Congress rule in Kishtwar who were demanding a Degree College and a student Bariyam Singh was shot dead by the police in 1978 while the Poonch students were demanding just college amenities for students.
He said that discrimination against the students and the youth has been continuing and it will not stop till the end of NC-Congress rule in J&K.
Harshdev Singh, Yashpaul Kundal and Partap Singh Jamwal also addressed the gathering.
Meanwhile, relay fast in the memory of martyred students by Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) entered second day today.
Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA) also paid tributes to the martyred students.
EP Tenants Welfare Society’s Working Committee led by its President Inder Mohinder Tar Singh paid rich tributes to the student martyrs of 1966 agitation at Shaheedi Sathal, outside GGM Science College. Sat Pal Saini, general secretary, Shanker Singh Chib, Hari Singh, Sikandhya Devi and Jagdeep Singh were also present.
