Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi on death anniversary

JAMMU, Jan 30: Rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ on his death anniversary.
On Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi, rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation in a programme organized at Deewan-e-Aam by Gandhi Global Family (GGF) and Gandhi Peace foundation under the aegis of United Nations Information Centre India and Bhutan.
Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Jahangir Hussain Mir, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Legislators Naresh Gupta, Rajesh Gupta and Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, Divisional Commissioner, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IGP Danish Rana, Director School Education Babila Rakwal, Former Advisor to Governor Khursheed Ahmed Ganai and General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal were present on the occasion. Educational institutions including schools and colleges, volunteers and functionaries of Gandhi Global Family and prominent citizens from across the State were part of this event. The programme included all faith prayer, pledge, bhajans and skits which were presented by students from various schools. The theme of the programme was introduced by Padamshree SP Verma, President Gandhi Global family. Present Members of GGF, Narendra Singh, Azhar Afzal Rather, Sadakat Malik, Bimla Slathia, Ghulam Mohammed Khan, Riaz Ahmed, Mohinder Singh Rasila, Waqar Shamas, Dr Karan Singh and Manish Joshi were also present on the occasion.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) organized a function here today to commemorate the martyrdom of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The function was presided over by JKPCC Chief GA Mir, while senior AICC Leader and MP Rajya Sabha Narinder Budhania and other senior functionaries of party besides leaders from different districts and blocks of Jammu Province and frontal organizations like Mahila, Youth Congress, NSUI, Seva Dal and INTUC also attended the function. Congress leaders including Sham Lal Sharma, Tara Chand, Mula Ram, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Raman Bhalla, Jahangir Mir Deputy Chairman LC, Gurmukh Singh, AICC Co-ordinators Dr Subash Manglote and Manmohan Katoch, Hari Singh, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Farooq Indrabi, General Secretaries Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Balwan Singh, Yogesh Sawhney, Shabir Khan, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra and many others also attended the programme. Rich tributes were paid to father of nation and his great contributions in the freedom struggles were remembered. Two minutes silence was also observed.
Gandhi Global Family and Happy Model Foundation, Udhampur paid rich floral tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The programme was witnessed by members of the civil society, staff and students of Shivalik College and Happy Model Higher Secondary School Udhampur. Books and literature on Mahatma Gandhi’s life were also displayed in the Dr Radhakrishnan Library. Dr SR Bamahghi, Life Member of Gandhi Global Family, J&K was the chief Guest, while Dr Vikram, Prof Sunita Koul,  Head Teacher Anita Chabbra, Creative Head Neha Khullar were also present on the occasion. Sonika Rajput, presented two popular bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi, followed by prayers by students with their music teacher Shipalli. A digital presentation “Bandey Mein Thaa Dum” by Neha Khullar was also presented. Animation movies on Mahatma Gandhi and his messages were also projected.
The staff and students at GDC Ramnagar paid tributes to the Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. Principal of the college Prof Tara Nath along with Prof Brinder Chib, Prof Satish Kumar, Dr Pankaj Sharma, Coordinator of the Programme and other staff members paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation. On the occasion, staff members and students presented speeches on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. In the end, NCC cadet Kewal Kumar extended vote of thanks.
DPS Jammu observed Martyrs’ Day, marking the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mohandass Karamchand Gandhi. The teachers briefed the students about the significance of the day and joined hands to pay respects to Bapu and all soldiers who attained martyrdom during freedom struggle. Later, all students, staff and administrative staff of DPS Jammu observed two minutes silence in their respective classes. Principal, DPS Jammu Ruchi Chabra led the entire school in solemnizing the pious occasion.
Maharaj Hari Singh DAV Cent Public School Akhnoor paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, a special assembly was organized in which staff and students observed two minutes silence. Principal of the school threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
The students and staff of Kids Kastle Preschool, Nanak Nagar paid rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Students and the teachers of the school took pledge to follow the path of non-violence.
The members of NGO Jiyo Aur Jeene Do organized a programme on the occasion of death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, wherein large number of people paid floral homage to the Father of Nation. President of NGO Tariq Shah threw light on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Among others present were Sanjay, Vijay, Ramrattan, Sanju Kumar, Devn and Baldev.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress (JKPCC) today paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 69th death anniversary at Srinagar Office. The party leaders recalled his selfless services and sacrifices given by him for honour, dignity of the Nation and people. They also threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi which was full of sacrifices and termed him and apostle of peace and harmony.
