Tributes paid to Jyotirao on 191st Jayanti

JAMMU, Apr 11: Rich tributes were paid today to Mahatama Jyotirao Phuley on its 191st Jayanti.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Jammu-Poonch, along with Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar constituency celebrated Mahatma Jyotiba Phuley Jayanti at Langer Basti in Gandhi Nagar Constituency.
While addressing the gathering at Langer Basti, Jugal said that Mahatma Phuley has done great deeds for benefit of mankind and upliftment of people belonging to Scheduled Caste community. He was the man of principles and promoted woman education.
Kavinder Gupta said that BJP-PDP Government in the State is working hard and to provide connectivity is the foremost priority of the Government. District president, Jammu, Baldev Singh, along with Mandal president, Harbans Choudhary was also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, Dalit Shoshan Mukti Munch today organized a function in connection with 191st Jayanti of Jyotirao Phule, at Guru Nava Dass Hall, Dogra Hall Jammu.
Phule was an Indian social activist, a thinker, anti caste social reformer, and he work in many fields like eradication of untouchability and the caste system, women education and women’s emancipation and reform of Hindu family life.
People from all walks of life attended the function in a large number. MLA from Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Tarigami said that today our real tribute to Jyotirao Phule should be to strengthen the unity of down trodden society against the unfair caste system and discrimination against women under which millions of people have suffered since ages.
