Trapped Miners

Sir,
The incident happened on 13 Dec 2018 when 13 labourers got trapped inside an illegal rat-hole mine at Lumthari village in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. More than three weeks have passed after the tragedy, yet the fate of trapped miners is not known because of the slow response by all the agencies concerned in rescuing the miners. This clearly indicates that we are so ill prepared to handle the worst situations as the rescuers even today have no clue about the trapped miners. Non seriousness in our country has become the elephant in the room that cannot be ignored. We should learn from Thailand, the way their authorities acted swiftly in performing a herculean task to extricate 13 precious lives from the cave.
It is high time to think that only poor labourers should not be blamed for the illegal mining but those big fishes should be punished who make a big money out of it.
