JAMMU, Jan 22: The transporters have postponed their 72-hour strike after assurance on the demands by the Chief Secretary B R Sharma during a meeting here this evening.
Official sources said that Government invited some representatives of various Transport bodies for dialogue at PWD Guest House, Gandhinagar here this evening. After long discussion with Chief Secretary in presence of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister BB Vyas, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal and Commissioner/ Secretary Transport, Vipul Pathak, Transport Commissioner, DIG, SSP and DC Jammu, the transporters delegation led by T S Wazir, chairman All J&K Motor Transport Companies Associations, decided to postpone the three-day strike programme from Monday.
Wazir, when contacted, said that they received invitation from the Government regarding meeting with the Chief Secretary at 6 pm today. The meeting was held under very congenial atmosphere and officers listened to the issues of transporters very patiently.
Government agreed on almost all the demands of the transporters. They also assured to take up the issue of increased taxes by Central Government with the Union Government. A meeting was also fixed with the Chief Minister on January 25 at 11 am. In view of the assurance from the Chief Secretary and other senior officers, the 72-hour strike was postponed, Wazir maintained.
