RAJOURI, July 8: A Traffic Police Constable was ran over by a speeding Tavera vehicle near Rajouri here today.

A police spokesman said that at around 7 am, a Traffic Police Constable (SGC) Mohd Zuber intercepted a Tavera vehicle No. JK13D/ 0099 near Alpha Gate, just closer to Salani bridge, Rajouri. The vehicle was on way to Srinagar via Mughal Road from Jammu. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and ran over the Traffic cop and sped away. The police later chased the vehicle and seized it. However, the driver managed to escape. The passengers told that they were going to Srinagar via this route as Govt had stopped movement of pilgrims and others towards Srinagar today in view of Ist death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani.
Critically injured Cop hailing from Chhaprian near Jawahar Nagar in Rajouri was rushed to District Hospital, Rajouri, where doctors referred him to GMC Hospital, Jammu. But he succumbed to injuries on the way. The police shifted her body to DH Rajouri and later handed over to the family for last rites. A case has been registered in this connection. The driver hailing from Pulwama in Kashmir was still at large.
