JAMMU, July 8: Evoking strong resentment over non-abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, despite implementation of GST (Goods and Services Tax) in the State, Traders Federation, Warehouse, Nehru Market, Jammu has demanded the State Government to abolish Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.
Addressing a meeting of the traders held here today, president o the Federation, Rajesh Gupta, said traders as well as the common man of the State is unable to face the brunt of double taxation in the State. “In case of non-abolition of Toll Tax, trading community will be forced to come on roads”, he added.
“The way the State Government has adopted GST without abolishing Toll Tax at Lakhanpur is a strong blow to the Centre Government’s move for One Nation-One Tax,”, he said, adding the retention of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur will automatically skyrocketed the prices of commodities of common use.
Gupta lambasted the State Government for keeping itself outside One Nation-One Tax system and made a fervent appeal to abolish Toll tax otherwise be ready to face the consequences in a day or two.
General secretary of the Federation, Deepak Gupta, strongly refuted the claims of State Government that full implementation of GST will affect the special status of the State. He reminded State Government of the assurances given by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely that if any State Government has to face financial loss due to implementation of GST, Centre will fulfill their claim of losses and added that State Government should approach to Central Government for loss incurred due to abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur instead of imposing double tax on the trading community.
Others who were present in the meeting include senior vice president, Ashok Gupta, junior vice president, Dharam Pal Gupta, secretary, Munish Mahajan, cashier, Rahul Gupta and all other members of the Federation.
