JAMMU, Oct 30: Police today arrested a notorious criminal and recovered four weapons from his possession in Trikuta Nagar area and foiled his plot to target his rivals.
SP City (South) Sandeep Choudhary told the Excelsior that Trikuta Nagar police conducted raids at different places after getting an information that the notorious criminal Yudhveer Singh alias Bablu R/o R S Pura has again become active and was plotting criminal act using the weapons, which were in his possession.
Choudhary said police teams arrested the criminal today and recovered four weapons from his possession including two loaded country made pistols along with 18 cartridges of 7.65 caliber and two .303 desi kattas along with six cartridges.
Police parties headed by SDPO East Arun Jamwal and SHO Trikuta Nagar Parvez Sajjad made the arrests under the supervision of SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta and Choudhary.
Choudhary said that gang rivalries tend to crop from time to time and arresting such criminals prevents major incidents of violence.
“Violent groups of young men involved in different types of crimes have to be dealt with sternly to keep the society safe,’’ he added.
On the question of supply of weapons, the SP South added that most of the weapons recovered from the criminals in Jammu have been obtained through illegal means and were to be used at various stages of violent crimes. “Such weapons are used by criminals to create a sense of fear among common citizens and their recovery goes a long way in alleviating the fears of common citizens’’.
Choudhary added that 15 weapons have been recovered by City South Police this year.
Highlighting the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police towards eradicating the drugs menace from the society, the SP stated that 90 FIRs under NDPS Act have been registered in South Zone alone this year.
“If observed microscopically, it amounts to almost one FIR under NDPS has been registered almost every third day. This huge volume of NDPS cases reflects the gravity of the challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir Police as far as drugs are concerned. Drugs and other substance use forces many young men towards crime,’’ he said.
The SP was  of the opinion  that the   best way to deal with this crime is timely arrests of suppliers and proper counseling and rehabilitation of young boys who have got into the grip  of  drugs many timings unwillingly. “Parents and society at large can play a major role in fighting crimes,’’ he added.
