JAMMU, Mar 17: Authorities in Katra today conducted raids on wholesale dealers and distributors of polythene and plastic disposable products in hold town of Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi ji shrine, and seized one ton of plastic bags, 200 packets of disposable glasses, 100 packs of plastic bowls and 50 packs of plastic spoons.
The drive against polythene and plastic disposables in Katra was conducted under the supervision of Sub Divisional magistrate (SDM) Katra Neelam Khajuria, who is also holding additional charge of Administration, Municipal Committee Katra.
Teams of Municipal Committee, Katra, Pollution Control Board and Police also joined the operation.
“Keeping in view the directions of National green Tribunal (NGT), it has become imperative for the administration to make Katra polythene free,” an official handout said.
