JAMMU, Feb 21: Two persons including an official of Toll Plaza Bantalab (Nagrota) were killed while one other was injured in two separate road mishaps occurred at Nagrota and Purkhoo areas of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, a truck bearing registration number JK02M-7356 and loaded with maize was on its way from Udhampur to Jammu this evening, when its brakes failed near Toll Plaza, Bantalab in Nagrota area and hit and damaged two cars standing in the queue at Toll Plaza.
He said that in the mishap, toll official Surjit Kumar, son of Ram Lal, resident of Jarhi (Jagti, Nagrota), who was standing between two damaged vehicles, received grievous injuries and was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
The Nagrota police had registered a case in this connection and seized the truck involved in the mishap while the accused truck driver – Harnam Singh (58) son of Punjab Singh, resident of Jhajjar Kotli, was also arrested.
“Another mishap occurred near the private Bungalow of former Minister Sham Lal Sharma at Purkhoo on Jammu-Akhnoor National Highway, where a load carrier bearing registration number JK02BN-5179 was hit by a speeding bus with registration number JK02AK-6675 from back side”, the spokesman said.
He said that in the mishap driver of the load carrier, who had been identified as Mahesh Kumar (35) son of Din Dayal (55), resident of Targwal, was killed on the spot while his father, who was also travelling with him, sustained serious injuries.
The injured man was shifted to GMCH Jammu for treatment while body of the deceased was kept in the mortuary room of the hospital for conducting postmortem tomorrow.
Kanachak police had registered a case in this connection and seized both the vehicles involved in the mishap while efforts were on to nab the accused bus driver, who managed to flee from the spot.
