Timber smuggling bid foiled, vehicle with logs seized

KISHTWAR, Aug 19: Continuing its  drive against timber smugglers in Chenab Circle, officials of Forest Division Kishtwar foiled a major timber smuggling attempt  by seizing  a vehicle during night,  which was carrying the finished material of  Deodar timber in Kishtwar town.
Range officer Kishtwar  received a specific tip off that one vehicle bearing registration No JK06- 7401 was carrying illegal timber and heading towards the town. The team headed by Range officer  under the supervision of DFO Kishtwar Manzoor Gagroo and on the directions of Conservator Chenab Circle, TB Singh laid a trap but the driver of the vehicle fled on seeing the team leaving the vehicle on road.  The team of officials managed to seize the vehicle along with the illicit timber.
When contacted DFO Forest Division Kishtwar,  confirmed the seizure of  timber along with the vehicle, adding that “we had prepared special squad for prompt action.”
It is pertinent to mention here that timber smuggling was frequent  in Chenab region but the timely and swift action of department has broken  the backbone of timber smuggling.
The team was lead by Range Officer Kishtwar Ashish Gupta and Block Officer Kishtwar,  Naushad Ali Malik alongwith Forest guards.
In another operation nearly three quintals of illegally extracted  ‘KHOUR’, MFP was also seized from a Tempo Travellar by the Forest sleuths near Drabshalla, Kishtwar during last night. . Tempo Travellar alongwith  seized MFP has been taken into the custody and confiscation proceeding has been started by the DFO Kishtwar,  said TB Singh CF Chenab Circle.. He further said that intense drive has been launched in the entire Chenab Circle to check illegal movement of  timber and MFP.
