Three drug peddlers held

Srinagar, Oct 3: Police today arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag and Budgam districts of Valley.
A police spokesman said that acting on specific information, police laid a checkpoint at Padshahi Bagh in Bijbehera area of Anantnag. “During Naka checking, a silver color Santro car without number plate driven by Aaqib Ahmad Mantoo was intercepted. During searches, 30 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized on spot. In this regard, a case was registered in and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
The spokesman said that during routine checking at Gagerpora Narbal in Budgam district, police intercepted a Truck bearing registration number JK03B-8612 driven by Shabir Ahmad Shah and assisted by conductor namely Irshad Ahmad Shah. “On checking the vehicle, 2 bags of poppy straw weighing about 12 kilograms were recovered. Both the driver and conductor were apprehended and the vehicle was seized. Police registered a case and investigation was taken up,” he said.
