JAMMU, Oct 24: Thousands of Muslims belonging to Shia Sect participated in the Zuljinah procession taken out here, today on 10th day of Muharam in memory of Imam-e-Hussain, Imam-e-Hassan and their 72 companions who laid down their lives in battle of Karballah 1400 years ago for truth and righteousness.
Reciting Marsia and Noha in praise of Imam-e-Hussain, Imam-e-Hassan and other martyrs of Karballah, the procession started from the house of Haji Rustom Ali Khan at Peer Mitha in the afternoon. It passed via Lakhdata Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Shaheedi Chowk, Wazarat road before culminating at Karballah Complex.
Earlier Majlis was held at Imambara Peer Mitha in which a large number of Shia Muslims participated.
To maintain the traditional brotherhood and communal amity for which the Jammu has always taken a lead, the people of majority community had established Chabeels enroute to serve cold water to processionists. The banners were also erected in Bazars where form the Ashoora procession passed.
On of the peculiarity of Zuljinah procession was that a small sect of Hindus from Jammu and Punjab participated in the procession to keep the age old tradition alive.
The Zuljinah procession was organized by Anjuman Imamia Jammu led by Syed Amanat Ali Shah its president in which the various Shia Muslim organizations like Muslim Federation, led by Ashaq Hussian, Anjuman Hyderi, New Plots, Anjuman Hussani Bhatindi, All Ladakh Muslim Students Federation, Volunteers of Sayed Mutahiri Library New Plot and members of Shia Sect from Poonch, Chanderkote and Kashmir participated.
Another procession was taken out by Anjuman Hyderi from New Plots to Peer Mitha.
At Karballah Majlis Sham-e-Gariban was delivered by Moulana Syed Ahmed Abas Rizvi. He highlighted the significance of battle of Karballah in Islam and said that Imam-e- Hussain and Imam –e-Hassan laid down their lives along with their companions to defeat the designs of Yazeed who was a great oppressor.
Talking to media persons on the sidelights of the Zuljinah procession, Prof Sujat Ali Khan general secretary, Anjuman Imamia said that Imam-e- Hussain and Imam-e-Hassan raised their voice for the oppressed and suppressed people of that time to keep the Islam alive.
He while quoting Imam Rohollah Almosavi Alkhumeni said “keep Karballah alive, keep the great name of Hazrat Imam Hussian alive because keeping this alive means keeping Islam alive’’.
The Zuljinah processions were taken out in various other parts of the State. At Dhab Ganderbal in Kashmir Valley a large number of Shia Muslims took out the Tazia Procession reciting Mersia and Noha. The People’s Republican Party (PRP) State president Mir Ghulam Rassool also participated in it.
The processions were taken out in Poonch, Mendhar, Rajouri, Surankote, Chanderkote and other places by the Shia sect of Muslims today.
