Testing time Trump

Sir,
Finally, Saudi admits the gruesome killing of Jamal Khashoggi though the decision for confession was undertaken because of the mounting international condemnation. However, now the query— is that enough? The whole world was anticipating curiously the outcome of this State sponsored murder of a Saudi national who was a US resident, a critic of the authoritative regime, living under self-imposed exile and lured to silence in slices in one of the diplomatic missions of the country of his origin. The interesting part of the whole tragedy is the stand taken by the US President, who is known for his flip flop position and famous for taking a U turn on every situation as per his limited knowledge and boundless power. Many experts believe, he was giving a cover up to help the Saudis to get out of this serious situation, without caring much for the worldly opinion but ultimately he succumbed to the domestic pressure by terming the killing to have been done by ‘rogue elements’. Trump vowed for severe consequences, for which we are yet to see if it really happens.
The US-Saudi relations are not based on shared values but on mutual interests. The US is milking Saudi money for billions of dollars in arms sale and other form of investments for US companies, in lieu of bolstering the Saudis counter against their arch rival Iranian influence in the Middle East. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia are accused of propagating their violent extremist Islam in the world and by siding with either one of them is more like giving one a leverage about other to proliferate the very same doctrine of religious extremism the world is batting against. Hope the US President stands up and defends the American values with respect to human rights, the way he did with Putin and Assad.
