Terror strike in Srinagar

Suicide squad of terrorist has attacked a CRPF camp in Bemina, the heart of summer capital of the State. Five unarmed jawans of the CRPF have lost their lives and ten others have been injured even as two terrorists have been gunned down by security forces. This is a major attack in Srinagar after gap of three years and indicates that all is not well in the capital city.
Dependable input reveals the direct hand of Pakistani intelligence agency in sponsoring and abetting this attack in Srinagar. The diaries and the ammunition recovered from two slain terrorists suggest forcefully that they originated from Pakistan. The ammunition bears Karachi as the manufacturing mark and the Urdu diaries give more clues about assailants. Pakistan relentlessly disowns any involvement in the episode, the precise way it has been indulging in for last three decades of animus. This is their patent reaction.
The Legislative Assembly in the State and the Parliament both witnessed unruly scenes created by the opposition. They questioned disarming of the CRPF jawans in Bemina. BJP activists in Jammu tried to demonstrate massively in front of the Civil Secretariat but were prevented by security forces.
Proceedings of last one week in the Assembly have shown that the MLAs in opposition and even among the ruling coalition are not really and seriously interested in resisting the challenge of terrorists sponsored from across the border. It may also be inferred that the terrorists were encouraged by the anti-India stance adopted by the opposition in the Assembly and the NC and Congress benches sealing their mouths and not contradicting their political adversaries.
Besides, who ordered that the CRPF jawans keep only lathis and no firearms? How come the CRPF officials have accepted the order of disarming the jawans and asking them to carry only lathis in a disturbed area? The security personnel were deployed for a very tough and difficult mission — that of containing violence and terror in Kashmir. What does the Charter of UN Human Rights say about attacks on security forces when not in action?
This event has shown that the lot of deliberations is required before the final withdrawal of AFSPA. Even the heart of the city is not safe and the underground network of terrorists remains intact. Security bandobast cannot lower its guard rather it should further intensify it. There is no room for any sort of complacency at any level. Some quarters have been suggested that there were intelligence inputs pointing at a possible strike by terrorist in summer capital. Then why all steps weren’t initiated to pre-empt such a possibility. This attack, as usual, could not be carried out without local support. Investigation sleuths shall have to track down the conduits among local people and take proper action against them.
