Tension erupts as Police beat up College students resenting pro-Pak slogans

JAMMU, Feb 11: Tension erupted at GGM Science College after Police resorted to brutal cane charging on the students, who were protesting against raising of pro-Pakistan slogans by some unidentified elements near the campus this morning.

The unwarranted Police action further enraged the students, who held massive protest demonstration demanding stern action against the cops guilty of cane charging and also immediate arrest of those who raised pro-Pakistan slogans.
Even as some senior Police officers later rushed to the spot for pacifying the situation, the students kept demonstrating for more than two hours. Accusing Police of siding with anti-nationals, the students also hoisted a national flag atop the college building before dispersing off.
The trouble erupted this morning when some unidentified persons from Kashmir Valley, putting up in a nearby hostel, held a protest demonstration for airlifting the stranded passengers here. While returning back to the hostel after protest demonstration, a few of them allegedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans, which triggered strong reaction among the GGM Science College students thus inviting a clash like situation there.
Meanwhile, a Police team reached the spot and allegedly resorted to lathicharge on the group of Science College students. In the Police action, some students, including girl, sustained injuries thus inviting more trouble on the campus.
Soon all the college students boycotted their classes and assembled near the main gate where a strong protest demonstration was held amidst slogans against J&K Police. The protesting students were demanding action against the cops responsible for lathicharge and also immediate arrest of the elements who had allegedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans.
The agitating students also attempted to take out a protest march but Police did not allow them to come out of the college gate. Even as senior Police officers reached the spot and attempted to pacify the students, the protest demonstration continued for more than two hours. The agitating students announced to continue the protest if no action is taken against the erring cops and `anti-national’ elements.
