UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: Tension gripped Talab Saillan area in the Udhampur town when a teenaged boy allegedly attempted to rape a four-year girl child from other community in her house, here today.
The shocking incident took place early this morning when the victim along with her six year old brother were alone in the rented accommodation near mosque in Talab Saillan and the accused boy entered their house for supply milk.
On finding the children alone, the accused allegedly attempted to rape the girl child after dragging her inside the bathroom. As brother of the victim tried to stop the accused, the later thrashed the former who started crying for help resulting into some neighbours rushing to the site.
The people rescued the girl child while some relatives of the accused reached there and purportedly helped the alleged culprit to flee the scene.
Soon a number of people gathered in the area and approached the Udhampur Police Station where a complaint with regard to the crime was lodged.
According to SHO Udhampur, Sanjeev Gupta, Police has registered a case FIR in this regard under Sections 376 and 540. As the accused was still absconding, his family members have been detained in the Police Station, the SHO added.
Reports said that poor family of the victim hails from Panchari area and has been presently putting up in a rented accommodation near the Saillan Talab mosque.
At the time of incident. father of the victim had gone as routine for earning his livelihood while the mother was also not at home.
The incident sparked a tension in the area and people held a protest demonstration near Matador Stand, opposite Town Hall (Office Municipal Council) seeking immediate arrest of the accused.
