JAMMU, Oct 16: Vowing to restore dignity and honour of the Dogra martyrs at any cost, JJSF and Team Jammu today jointly stated that unfinished agenda of the martyrs of 1966 students’ agitation would be finished soon.
Three students, namely Brij Mohan, Subhash Chandra and Gulshan Handa were killed in GGM Science College premises whereas another student leader, Gurcharan Singh was killed on October 18, 1966, in Kanak Mandi, Jammu, when a students’ procession was marching through the streets of Jammu.
To pay homage to these student martyrs, four activists of JJSF today sat on three-day long fast at Shaheedi Sthal outside GGM Science College. Those observing fast included Sunil Chouhan, Sulaksh Kotwal, Ratesh Chowdhary and Hritik Verma.
While paying tributes to the student martyrs, Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that entire Jammu province is indebted to these martyr students who had sacrificed their lives for the future of Jammu.
“Since 1947 people of Jammu region have been giving sacrifices to live a dignified life but unfortunately the successive Governments have meted out a step motherly treatment with nationalist people of Jammu”, he regretted and rued that in a so-called democratic set up of J&K people of Jammu region have been discriminated by the ruling elites with one or other way.
President, JJSF, Advocate Pushpinder Singh,  in his address,  pointed out that the political parties, who claimed to be champion of Jammu’s cause too have sacrificed Jammu’s interests for the lust of power.
While recalling sacrifices of students, Pushpinder Singh said that every year October 16, 17 and 18 were observed as the Martyrs Day in Jammu as in 1966 four students had laid down their lives for the sake of Jammu people. He alleged that discrimination against students and the youth was continuing.
Vice-president JJSF, Atul Sudan conducted proceedings of the function while president SKUAST, Teachers Association Dr Vikas Sharma and general secretary, Dr Vivak Arya also spoke on the occasion.
Among others, present on the occasion, included Atul Sharma, Dr Ashish Gupta, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Kulbir Singh, Anil Sharma, Sunil Raipuria, Surinder Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Sanjeev Sagar, Clinton Sharma, Ashwini Kumar, Deepak Gupta, Abhijeet Singh, Simant Singh and Kunal Sharma.
