Tawi Trekkers releases Activities Calendar

JAMMU, Apr 20: Tawi Trekkers, the biggest trekking club of J&K, released its calendar of activities for the year 2017-18 in a simple function at K L Saigal Hall, Abhinav Theatre, here.
Ruby Sharma, Chairperson, IASOWA (IAS Officers Wives Association) J&K who was the chief guest on the occasion, released the Calendar in the presence of the presiding guest, Prof Lalit Magotra, an eminent scientist and a writer and a Founder member of Tawi Trekkers J&K and guest of honour Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Secretary General, Press Club, Jammu and a senior member of Tawi Trekkers and a number of heads of the various educational institutions.
Highlighting the activities to be undertaken by the club this year Senior Vice President of the club Ram Khajuria mentioned that this year the club shall organize the Himalayan Trekking Programme in Manali area of Himachal Pradesh for about 500 school children during summer vacations, two trekking expeditions in Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh for Junior and Senior members and one in Moungri area of Udhampur district exclusively for senior citizens. Besides, regular short treks and visits to heritage sites and Wild Life parks shall also be organised in Jammu region.
To spot the talent in sport climbing at the grass root level and to groom it for future competitions the club has an ambitious plan of conducting regular coaching cum practice camps in co-ordination with Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu. Those excelling in such camps shall also be deputed for coaching and practice at international standard climbing walls at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. The club has plans to promote sport climbing among physically and visually challenged persons by organizing coaching camps and competitions.
A State level sport climbing competition exclusively for women will also be conducted by Tawi Trekkers at sprawling buds school in the month of July, 2017 prior to the participation of state women’s team in the 2nd North Zone Women Sport Climbing Competition scheduled to be held at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi.
