Tanker operators suspend supplies to Valley

JAMMU, Aug 27: Oil Tanker operators today again suspended fuel supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh after Government failed to provide affective security to the drivers/ cleaners and their tankers in Kashmir valley.
President of All J&K Oil Tanker Drivers and Cleaners Union Khair Din Wani told the Excelsior that Union members along with six injured drivers went to the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal this afternoon. IGP Jammu, DIG Traffic, several other senior officers and all the three Jammu based Oil Depot Managers were also present during the meeting. Discussions were also held with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir through video conferencing.
The injured drivers revealed their tales. They claimed that despite fresh assurances by authorities in Kashmir Division, the drivers continued to be attacked by the miscreants in Kashmir. Security in the city and also on the highway was not sufficient. During the meeting, no definite assurance about the affective security cover was given by the officers.
The Tanker Drivers Union after this meeting also held yet another meeting separately and declared to suspend fuel supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh indefinitely. Wani said that the supplies in Jammu region will continue.
