Take action against RDD officials for irregularities in NREGA: Niaz

BHADERWAH, July 23: Former Minister  and senior Congress leader,  Mohd Sharief Niaz has demanded action against the Rural Development Department (RDD) employees of  Bhaderwah  Sub Division for committing irregularities in NREGA works in the area.
Mr Niaz, former Legislator from Bhaderwah constituency, conducted extensive visit of areas like Kahal Juggasar, Bisran, Kilhotran, Dalmaira, Gwari and Gandoh and held public meetings and discussed the issues of the people. The former Minister was apprised by the people about massive irregularities conducted by the RDD employees of the area under MG-NREGA works. They also told that pending wages of  many workers were not paid and some middlemen forged the signatures and drawn the payments fraudulently in many cases.  The real job card holders have been deprived of the work and even the payments worth lakhs for the last several years.
The Congress leader urged upon the Government to hold an impartial inquiry into the alleged irregularities committed in all the blocks of Bhaderwah constituency  and take stringent action against the RDD officials concerned.  He alleged that many workers  have not been paid their wages under NREGA while, the department is bound to make payments to the poor workers within 14 days as per prescribed rules and guidelines of the scheme.
Mr Niaz further alleged that worst is the condition of power supply to many areas of Bhaderwah and the people are being made to pay hefty bills despite the fact that electricity is available hardly for few hours during the day.  He also demanded that Aadhar  Cards be issued to the people who are pending, Hardly 35-40 % people have yet received their cards. The process be completed in the area..
Former Minister also alleged bunglings in the BPL lists and said that many undeserving people have been issued cards by the concerned department.  He demanded that deserving people be included in the lists. He also said that chairman and other members of Watershed be elected by open Gram Sabha and no underground committee on political basis be constituted. He criticized the local MLA for ignoring the basis issues of the people.
