Srinagar, Oct 5: Member Legislative Council (MLC) Firdous Tak today sought a high level probe into appointments made under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Kishtwar.
Replying to a written query of PDP MLC in the Upper House, during Question Hour, Minister of State for Health Asiya Naqash informed the house that about 169 doctors were engaged under NRHM 2012-13, while in 2013-14 about 219 doctors were appointed on contractual basis.
The Minister admitted that serious complaints were received by the DDC Kishtwar as well as by the Mission Director NRHM with regard to the appointments of Dental Surgeon, Physiotherapists, Counselors, Dental Assistants and Para-medics made by the District Health Society Kishtwar, few months back.
“The details of the probe conducted by the District SP on the instructions of DDC Kishtwar have not been shared with the Mission Director, NHM”, the minister said, adding that DDC Kishtwar has, as per the report submitted by ADC, found the allegations false.
Amid the uproar by the opposition the PDP legislator pointed serious loopholes in the selection process and demanded high level probe so as to bring the truth before the public. “The Government has admitted that there were allegations so what prevented the authorities to order high level probe. Unfortunately, the Deputy Commissioner, who was part of the process, has himself raised doubts and got the things inquired by an officer subordinate to him”, he pointed out, adding, “How can ADC give an adverse report against his superior officer. This is travesty of entire process and cast show on the very credibility of the appointments”.
Alleging that less meritorious candidates were selected under some kind of influence, the legislator said, “I can say with authority on the floor of the House that the DC instead of conducting the interviews himself had delegated powers to a tehsildar, who was made part of the process illegally”.
Talking to the reporters outside the House, Tak said that even the candidates with invalid diplomas have found their place in the selection, which speaks about the process adopted by the authorities. He said that he would approach State Vigilance Organisation to ensure justice to the affected candidates.
