JAMMU, Jan 31: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi-ud -Din today laid foundation of a multipurpose indoor sports hall at Banna Singh Stadium in R S Pura.
The multipurpose hall would be constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the Government has embarked on an ambitious plan of expanding and strengthening sports infrastructure in the State. In this regard, he said, sports complexes are being constructed at Block levels and every Panchayat would be having a sports field.
Mr Taj said sports infrastructure in the State is being further strengthened and more and more equipments are being added to provide improved facilities to youth.
The Minister appealed youth to avail the benefits of these improved facilities and not indulge in activities like drug addiction and other anti social activities. He said sports provides best medium to develop one’s body and mind.
Mr Taj complimented Major (Retd.) Banna Singh on the occasion saying that he was the pride of entire State, not only of R S Pura alone. He said it would be befitting tribute to Major Banna Singh that a sports complex of quality standard would be developed at R. S. Pura.
MLA, R S Pura, Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat; former Minister, R S Chib, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Dileep Thussu; Param Vir Chakra Major (Retd.) Banna Singh, officers of district administration besides a large number of people were present on the occasion.
