Syndicate approves establishment of ESDC, BIIC in JU

JAMMU, Oct 13: The 114th meeting of the University Syndicate of University of Jammu was today held under the chairmanship of Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu. Prof. Dhar during his maiden meeting of the Syndicate dwelled on various important academic and administrative matters with regard to the functioning of the University. He also put forth his suggestions with regard to further development of the University in terms of academics, research and extra-curricular activities. The Vice Chancellor also focused on skill development programs for providing ample opportunities to the youth for facilitating their gainful employment.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for the University to conduct research on the major problems and concerns faced by Jammu and Kashmir including the environmental issues and the University should share outcome of such research with all the relevant stakeholders.
Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to Government, Finance Department, Financial Advisor (Universities), J&K Government in his remarks said that the University should take initiatives to invite experts from various fields for invited lectures and interactions to reap benefits from their versatile experience.
Regarding the creation of research cluster proposed by the Vice Chancellor, Ms. Sarita Chauhan, Commissioner Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, J&K Government suggested that there should be collaborations and mutually beneficial relationship between the University and its affiliated colleges.
Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, University of Jammu presented 46 items in the meeting. Giving nod to the various agenda items, Syndicate also confirmed the action taken on the items endorsed by the Academic Council and the Finance Committee. Deliberations were also held with respect to various fresh academic matters to confirm the action taken by the Vice Chancellor in having renewed temporary affiliation of various colleges and starting of new subjects/ courses. Further the Syndicate also considered matters related to amendment in statutes and cases regarding confirmation of Assistant Professors, Assistant Executive Engineer, Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars.
The Syndicate agreed in principle for the establishment of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (ESDC) and Business Incubation and Innovation Centre (BIIC) in the University.
The Syndicate also gave nod for setting up of the office of Chief Proctor and Deputy Chief Proctor in the University of Jammu on analogy of the University of Kashmir. The office shall be responsible for the maintenance of law and order, security issues and student discipline for the smooth functioning of the University.
