Symposium on road safety organised

JAMMU, Jan 13: In connection with the 25th Road Safety Week celebrations, the Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu today organized a debate-cum-symposium on Road Safety at University of Jammu.  As many as 35 students from 10 schools and 2 colleges participated in the event.
Minister of State for Fisheries  and Cooperatives, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate information about safety among the public and the motor vehicle users especially the youth.  He enjoined upon the department to carry out activities on sustained basis throughout the year so that the message become truly effective.
Earlier, Transport Commissioner, Saurabh Bhagat detailed the importance of Road Safety Week and the activities being organized by the department.  He said that the department is engaged in creating Road Safety Awareness by way of organizing such programmes throughout the year.
G.A. Sofi, Director State Motor Garages also spoke on the occasion and underscored the need for creating Road Safety Awareness. RTO Jammu, Arvind Kotwal presented the vote of thanks.
Deputy Transport Commissioner, stake holders of the Transport Department including Chairman Mini Bus Worker’s Union, Auto Dealers Association, representatives of the driving institutes, representatives of JKSRTC, drivers and conductors of the State Motor Garages, students from education institutes and university were also presented on the occasion.
