JAMMU, Nov 8: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was conducted here today at Trikuta Nagar, Sector-3,  under the supervision of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu along with Kiran Wattal, Commissioner JMC and members of NGO, Art of Living.
The drive passed through various areas of Trikuta Nagar during which the  NGO volunteers appealed people to use dust bins and avoid polythene carry bags.
Similar  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was carried out in the city by UCO Bank under the banner of Cultural and Heritage Society in collaboration with School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu and Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association, Jammu.
In the presence of Commissioner JMC, nine-prominent personalities, selected by the Heritage Society, went around the bazaar and lifted the garbage from the road. These personalities included  Soujanya Sharma,  Director Information;  R K Verma, Director Tourism;  Balwant Thakur,  Director Natrang;   Ravinder Singh Jamwal, well known sculptor; Suman Gupta,  painter and artist, Maj Gen (Retd) R S Jamwal (president of Dharmarth Trust), Er Darshan Gupta, artist Vijay Anand and Vijay Atri.
Ashwani Gupta, chairman Upper Gumat Bazar and Baldev Khullar, president  of  Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association also joined these people in the drive during which buckets were supplied to door step of every shop for collecting  their garbage into this bucket rather then throwing it in open area.
The drive will  continue for few months and JMC Commissioner Kiran Wattal, JMC Health Officer Dr Mohammad Salim Khan, JU Professor Prikshit Singh Manhas, Dr Suvidha Khanna, UCO Bank Senior Mananger M L Sharma, chairman  JHS Om Parkash Mahajan and RBBA president Baldev Khullar along with JU students will also be part of  it.
Meanwhile,   the Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr  Zaffar Iqbal and his team  lifted 19  stray animals from the different areas of Panama Chowk, Narwal, Trikuta Nagar, Channi, Janipur, Muthi, Talab Tillo, Bantalab etc, and locked them in the cattle pound Dogra Hall.  Subsequently anti polythene control drive was also carried out by MVO in the areas of Trikuta Nagar, Gangyal, Channi, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Narwal etc. Fine to the tune of Rs  6400 was realized from the defaulters having huge quantity of polythene in their possession.
