The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan has crossed many landmarks, many states including J and K, have achieved open defecation free districts but much remains to be done in this regard especially in the cities, satellite colonies where the labour factor living in makeshift shanties is the vital component in the developmental process. No doubt, they have availed all the modern gadgets of living like cooking gas, electric heaters, TVs with cable connections or the dish connections, refrigerators mobiles etc, but no toilets. They resort to open defecation in the vacant plots in the colonies, creating nuisance and defeating the very efforts of the Govt. They are deprived of this basic amenity which is unfortunate. The Govt must come forward to the burning problem. The point at issue is the fast developing Upper Roop Nagar Jammu Colony of JDA, now managed by the JMC. The authorities have to provide a working solution to this problem.
