SVO books BMO, health staff on graft charges

JAMMU: The Block Medical Officer Uri and a subordinate staff have been booked by State Vigilance Organization (SVO) for allegedly demanding and accepting gratification for releasing salaries of contractual employees in Baramulla district.

The State Vigilance Commission exposed fraud and conspiracy committed by the BMO Uri in connivance with his subordinate staff which caused a huge loss to the State Exchequer, an SVC spokesperson said here today.

Azad Ahmad complained to the SVC that the BMO and his assistant demanded and accepted gratification to release pending salaries and arrears of contractual doctors and paramedics, including his wife Dr Sameena Qayoom, he said.

The SVO, investigation wing of the SVC, after thorough enquiry prima-facie established that the arrears in respect of 13 contractual employees have been drawn in sheer violation of the rules resulting in loss to the Government exchequer running into lakhs of rupees, he said.

Accordingly, the SVO registered an FIR against the BMO and his assistant under relevant sections of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and the RPC, the spokesperson said.

An investigation is underway against the accused public servants. (AGENCIES)
