SVC’s intervention leads to recovery of Rs 3.30 lakh from JRC Mumbai

JAMMU, Oct 4: On the intervention of State Vigilance Commission, Rs 3.30 lakh have been recovered from Jawed Ahmad Shah, then Joint Resident Commissioner, Mumbai, on account of occupying and using Government guest house at Mumbai as the officer has drawn House Rent Allowance monthly despite using the Government facility.
Earlier, the Commission had received a complaint alleging therein that the officer has embezzled House Rent Allowance, misusing of departmental vehicles and VVIP suits reserved for top functionaries of the Government.
The Commission, after taking cognizance of the matter, sought a report from Principal Secretary Hospitality and Protocol Department.
On the directions of SVC,   a special audit team was deputed to Mumbai to get the accounts of the Resident Commission, Mumbai audit.  The audit team, after thorough checking of records, established that the Joint Resident Commissioner has dishonestly drawn Rs 3.30 lakh as rent despite using Government facility and the audit party recommended to recover the amount from the officer. After the detection, the officer has been made to deposit the illegally drawn amount of Rs 3.30 Iakh.
The action taken report submitted by Principal Secretary, Hospitality and   Protocol Department has further recommended that the rent of the guest house should also be recovered from the former JRC, Asif Khan, who has not vacated accommodation despite having transferred to New Delhi.
The audit team further recommended that an in-depth audit of the accounts of Commission need to be conducted either by AG office of DG Audit and Inspections as no audit has been conducted for years together there.
