Suriya Saptami celebrated with religious fervor, gaiety

JAMMU, Feb 3: Suriya Saptami was celebrated with full religious fervor and gaiety today.
In this connection a Maha Yagya was solemnized at Surya Bhawan Paloura near here. The Maha Yagya started yesterday and Puranahuti was performed this afternoon. It was followed by serving of prashad to devotees.
A large number of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu thronged the Surya Bhawan to participate in the celebration and pay obeisance to Ishit Dev (presiding deity) Mahamartand Ji and seek blessings.
The bhajan Kirtan continued from yesterday evening by well known singers Shanti Lal Sidh & party and M K Tickoo & party.
On the occasion BJP State president, Sat Sharma was the chief guest. The president of Martand Tirath Trust Ashok Kumar Sidha appealed him to use his good offices in including the Martand Tirath on the map of pilgrimage tourism. He informed Sharma that the shrine was on the map of pilgrimage tourism in the past and now it has been removed from there.
The annual report of the Trust was read by Salegram Bawnoo, general secretary of the Trust. Sat Sharma assured his full cooperation and support in fulfilling the demand.
The function was presided over by the chairman of the Trust Avtar Krishan Moosa. On the occasion Hari Krishan Sidha threw light on the religious significance of Martand Shrine and Lord Martand Ji. Magh Shukla Paksh Saptami is celebrated as birth day of Lord Martand every year with religious fervor and gaiety and it is called Suriya Saptami.
The stage was managed by Hari Krishan Sidh publicity secretary of the Trust. The function was also attended by president ASKPC advocate Ravinder Raina.
