Sumo operators protest as DySP Traffic beats up driver

MENDHAR, July 18: The Sumo drivers  held protest demonstration  and blocked Mendhar -Surankote  Road for some time after DySP Traffic of Poonch area allegedly beaten up a Tata Sumo driver in the area today.
Reports said that the trouble erupted after DySP Traffic Sheikh Mohd Aslam along with some cops had laid naka on Jammu- Poonch highway at Jarran Wali Gali. The Traffic staff signaled a Tata Sumo No. JK12-4554. During routine checking, the driver Mohd Salim Khan had some tiff with the cops over the issue of `entry’.  The DySP and his men allegedly beaten up the driver. The five passengers travelling in the vehicle came to the rescue of the driver. Later, Traffic cops let the driver go towards Surankote.
The driver accompanied by other Sumo drivers then went to Police Station Surankote and lodged written complaint against DySP Traffic and his staff. Then he was hospitalized under MRD No. 1972 and MLC No. 511 at SDH Surankote.
Later, Sumo drivers at Mendhar came to know about the matter. They blocked Harni road at main Chowk and started protest demonstration against Traffic Police. They demanded action against the DySP Traffic and his immediate removal from the area. The angry mob of drivers  then rushed to Jarran Wali Gali to avenge the beating up of driver, but the Traffic cops had already left the place sensing trouble.
SDPO Mendhar, Riaz Tantary when contacted said there was some issue between the Traffic cops and drivers on the road. While down plying the incident, he said they were trying to resolve the issue after brief protest.
