Substandard drugs being provided to patients in Govt hospitals: Mian Altaf

SRINAGAR, June 10: Expressing grave concern over continued pouring in complaints about influx of substandard and expired drugs being provided to the patients in major Government hospitals in the city, MLA Kangan and former Health Minister Mian Altaf Ahmed has blamed the Medical Education Department for the prevailing mess.
In a statement issued, here today, Mian Altaf Ahmed alleged that the patients were dying every day mostly because of substandard medicines. “ The incident at SMHS drug counter should be an eye opener for the Government and  a thorough investigation should be carried into it as action should be taken against the guilty,” he said.
Mian Altaf asked the Drug and Food Control Organization to devise effective mechanism to keep check on supply and sale of spurious drugs in the hospitals.  “The organization needs to work with more dedication to plug the entry of substandard medicines in the State. The only motive should be to save the human lives, “he said, adding that the common people do not know about the manufacturers and the quality standards, so the whole responsibility lies on the Government in checking this menace.
Mian Altaf also said that in Jammu Medical College, adhocism was affecting the overall health care in this prestigious and major hospital. He said that the Health Department also needs to check the working of hospitals in rural urban areas so as to provide quality health care to the needy patients.
He further said that the ISM hospitals should also be made functional.
